1939 Mural Anniversary, Immanuel Lutheran
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Norwood Pennsylvania has a treasure that turns 80 years old this year. It is a hand painted mural on the back wall of the sanctuary which was painted by renowned 1930’s Philadelphia artist Miriam Tindall Smith in loving memory of her Mother, Jennie Minerva Tindall. The public is invited to join Immanuel members for an 80th Birthday Celebration on Sunday October 13thduring our 11:00AM service followed by a coffee hour with a birthday cake. We’ll share some history, re-dedicate the mural and enjoy the beautiful art.
The mural, almost 70 feet across, towers to the peak of the ceiling and took nearly two years to complete. The central scene is the Sermon on the Mount that shows Jesus and his followers. On the left is a scene portraying Jesus with Mary Magdalene in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the right is a scene of Jesus with the blind beggar
